The reason they are getting 25% is because they are rookies. Meaning they don't really know what they are doing. Or what they need to look for to find to opals. Once they start bringing in more opals, and gain experience. They get a bigger share. Right now, more or less, they are being tested. You need to remember this is a TV show. Meaning they are getting paid to be dramatic, as well as search and find opals.

I don’t know a lot about opals but what I have watched from videos and professionals who’ve been doing it for years (cutting and polishing). You don’t know what you’ve got until you start polishing on the grinder - ie: color on a sliding scale, inclusions, sand, black markings that have to be sanded out, cracks that don’t manifest until after they dry out etc etc... I’d take 25% because at the end of the day what they brought out could basically be literally a load of crap.

no kidding! I’d be whistling Dixie no matter what.
It’s just natural ebb and flow situation- some will *find sometimes...and then, some will not- then it reverses and repeats. There’s a natural rhythm to that type of career, alone- almost like gambling, only they still make WAAAY more than what they “have to”...and they are so not sharing those amounts with us...that’s just a fact. They don’t want others getting any ideas and going out there- NO WAY! They act like they ALL barely get buy😂 But they wouldn’t go to the extremes If they only made what they show.
But inevitably, keeping faith and being happy, would surely produce more of a treasure-
Even if not in the form of huge monetary pay-outs.😊
Just being healthy and able to go hunt and play with your mate- should be appreciated and exciting in itself.
She *could be at a desk job, being a slave to a keyboard and on uh office chair...worse-
being stuck indoors, day in and day out.
      It’s like- stfu already-
laugh, be happy& grateful for your health and all that you get to do!
Good gosh. What a downer. I’d go nuts. I get more excited than MOST of the hunters on these shows! I am shouting and cheering them-on as they walk in to sell their finds even.
      I love these shows!!!
Even if I do have to live vicariously through them.

Most miners have houses and families on the line and it all comes down too how much opal they find. If they get nothing for the season there family suffer too.
